It’s a rainy day out today so I’m sitting down having some chia seeds and green tea and sifting through some notes. Chia seeds are great for weight loss so I figured I’d write a bit about it. But first, in relation to weight loss, one key mindset that I think many people overlook when they’re trying to make these changes in themselves is this- you must actually believe that you CAN make the change. Now, I don’t mean that in the airy fairy motivation poster type of way. I mean, the actual belief that you can or can’t do something will dictate whether you actually go for it.

The reason this came up is a buddy of mine came up with all these big audacious goals after reading a time management book about 6 months ago. He’s gotten to none of those goals. Why? Because when he write the goals down- he wanted the end result of getting those goals, but he never really believed he could do it.

That doesn’t mean he couldn’t actually do it. It means he didn’t actually have that where where you KNOW it can happen. He had more of a “would be cool if I got there” kind of feeling. Now, how much energy would YOU put towards your goal of getting fit if you just felt- “yeah, it would be cool”? How many of the daily activities would you finish each day if you thought that you’re probably wasting your time?

Now, how much energy would you put forth if in your gut you absolutely knew you were going to get there, as long as you complete your daily tasks? Yup- you’d put a lot more into it. And, the more of these daily action you take, guess what? You’re closer to that goal.

How to Use Chia Seeds for Losing Weight

Many of my clients have reaped the benefits of chia seeds as an effective strategy to losing weight. And you know, you gain weight when you consume more calories than you burn off. If you reduce your intake of calories, less weight will be gained. That is easy enough for everyone to understand, but actually trying to eat less is what many people find very difficult to do because food cravings can be so strong. This is where chia seeds can help.

These little seeds can help you lose your craving for snacks so that you will not put on those extra pounds. When chia seeds are exposed to water, they can absorb up to twelve times their weight in water. They expand and turn into a gel-like substance. When you drink a glass of water with a couple of tablespoons of chia seeds in it, the chia seeds will expand inside your stomach so that it will create a feeling of fullness in your stomach. You will no longer feel hungry. You lose that craving to eat.

Imagine that by consuming just a bit of chia seeds weight loss can be under control. This is a great solution for people who tend to have cravings for a snacks during the middle of day. During a long day working in the office or at home, it is common for someone to get the urge to reach for something that is high in sugar like cookies, or something high in fat and salt like chips. Those snacks pack in a bunch of calories and do not return much in terms of nutrients. All of those extra calories just stay in the body, and eventually they result in weight gain.

By drinking a glass of water with a couple of tablespoons of chia seeds added to it, you can go for hours without feeling hungry. Taking in chia seeds after you eat breakfast and after you eat lunch can help you go through your day without craving for a snack. You can reduce the portions of your meals and not feel like you have not eaten enough. By using chia seeds weight loss can finally be achieved.

Another benefit of chia seeds is that they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, protein, dietary fiber and a range of vitamins and minerals. Since you will be eating less, you need to focus on foods that are dense in nutrients to get the most benefits out of every bite of your meal. Chia seeds fit into that.

Chia seeds are not expensive and they are not hard to find. You can find them in stores that sell health foods. Always look for raw or whole chia seeds to get the best results. You can sprinkle these seeds on top of a salad or soak them in water, then mix the gel into a smoothie. There are many delicious ways to incorporate chia seeds into your daily diet.

So, do chia seeds help lose weight? Absolutely. Go in with the mindset about it and they will be a healthy way to curb your appetite and finally lose those first 10 pounds- or those last 10 pounds.
