Chia Seeds for Weight Loss Benefits
It’s a rainy day out today so I’m sitting down having some chia seeds and green tea and sifting through some notes. Chia seeds are great for weight loss so I figured I’d write a bit about it. But first, in relation to weight loss, one key mindset that I think many people overlook when they’re trying to make these changes in themselves is this- you must actually believe that you CAN make the change. Now, I don’t mean that in the airy fairy motivation poster type of way. I mean, the actual belief that you can or can’t do something will dictate whether you actually go for it.
The reason this came up is a buddy of mine came up with all these big audacious goals after reading a time management book about 6 months ago. He’s gotten to none of those goals. Why? Now, how much energy would YOU put towards your goal of getting fit if you just felt- “yeah, it would be cool”? How many of the daily activities would you finish each day if you thought that you’re probably wasting your time?
Now, how much energy would you put forth if in your gut you absolutely knew you were going to get there, as long as you complete your daily tasks? Yup- you’d put a lot more into it. And, the more of these daily action you take, guess what? You’re closer to that goal.
How to Use Chia Seeds for Losing Weight
Many of my clients have reaped the benefits of chia seeds as an effective strategy to losing weight. And you know, you gain weight when you consume more calories than you burn off. If you reduce your intake of calories, less weight will be gained. That is easy enough for everyone to understand, but actually trying to eat less is what many people find very difficult to do because food cravings can be so strong. This is where chia seeds can help.
These little seeds can help you lose your craving for snacks so that you will not put on those extra pounds. When chia seeds are exposed to water, they can absorb up to twelve times their weight in water. They expand and turn into a gel-like substance. When you drink a glass of water with a couple of tablespoons of chia seeds in it, the chia seeds will expand inside your stomach so that it will create a feeling of fullness in your stomach. You will no longer feel hungry. You lose that craving to eat.
